In 1866, in the territory of Arizona, a treatie bewteen the Mescalero Apache's and the United States Government extisted, and as with most treaties with the Government, this treatie was broken. The question as to which side broke the treatie is still in question today. On May 16, a troop of Cavalry men under the leadership of a young Lieutenant, attacked and massacred a sleeping camp of Mescalero men, women and children. The Leader of that Apache band, along with his woman, were the only survivors. Ironically, he and his people believed in and were respecting the treatie. His name, Yellow Shirt. Once a peaceful man who had opposed killing, now became a feared and hated murderer. This is the story of his revenge.
